Duties of a Certified Cardiac Arrhythmia Technician (CCAT):
Certified Cardiac Arrhythmia Technician (CCAT) monitors the heart rhythm patterns of patients to detect abnormal variations (rhythms). Certified Cardiac Monitor Telemetry Technicians work in a hospital setting. Cardiac Arrhythmia Technician (CCAT) are responsible for reviewing patient’s record to determine normal heart rhythms. They are also trained to monitor the cardiac rhythms and note any deviations seen on a cardiac monitor. Certified Cardiac Monitor Telemetry Technicians are usually required to review various monitors at one time to view and identify any abnormal heart rhythm variations. They may also required to perform application procedures for telemetry or other types of EKG applications such as 12 Lead EKG, 15 Lead EKG, 3 Lead EKG, 5 Lead EKG, 7 Lead EKG. Their main job is to immediately notify doctors or nurses of any such abnormal deviations in heart rhythm seen on the cardiac monitor. Cardiac Monitor technicians are also known as telemetry technicians. AECA is the first National Certification Organization to offer a Cardiac Arrhythmia Technician (CCAT) for candidates looking to explore the career as a Cardiac Arrhythmia Analysis Technician.
The Clinical Skills Duties may include:
• Review and identify abnormal rhythm followed by immediately notifying the nurse or doctor
• Perform vital signs
• Measure and record height & weight
• Prepare examination room
• Patient communication for patient interview or patient education
• Perform electrocardiography on patient
• Understand the responsibility as a ekg technician
• Equipment sterilization and disinfection
Minor Administrative Duties may include:
• Handle medical records
• Patient appointment scheduling
• Patient communication for insurance information
• Maintaining and updating patient records if required
• Ordering supplies and keeping a track of the medical equipment and supplies
Clerical Duties may include:
• Cleaning the examination room
Additional skills may be required as per the facility requirements.
